Bloomington AD isn’t sticking around to grade his new hire

Let’s see if I have this correct. The Bloomington boys’ athletic director hires a 33-year-old head football coach to replace the legendary Don Markham, then turns around and announces he’s bolting town in an RV.

That doesn’t exactly sound like a vote of confidence for the new coach. At least wait a couple weeks before you announce your retirement. It’s not like the RV is already packed and ready to go.

But the new guy, Tom Conner, should do OK. I’m just worried about his plan to sell his home in Victorville and move to Fontana. I’m no expert in real estate, but from what I read in The Times, that might also be a case of bad timing.

As for Markham, looks as if he’s already trying to scrounge players for his new gig at American Sports University in San Bernardino, the place where sports trainers will go to train. Sounds like all you needed was a high school diploma and a heartbeat to get a tryout number on Saturday.

I get the feeling Markham is going to decide this isn’t the way he wanted to sign off on his decorated career.
