With the number of leagues in the City Section for boys’ and girls’ track and field growing from eight to nine this spring, the Interscholastic Athletics Committee has changed how athletes will qualify for the 2008 City prelims and finals.

The frosh-soph league champions are no longer guaranteed an automatic berth in the finals. Instead, athletes with the top eight times or marks will qualify. League champions will still be guaranteed automatic berths in the mile and two-mile runs.

For varsity runners, the automatic qualifiers for the prelims will be reduced from four to three. The other slots will be filled with at-large qualifiers with the best times or marks.
