After leading Morro Bay to its first league title since 1971, it’s great to see QB Logan Budd will be taking his remarkable all-around game to the collegiate ranks.

Budd told me via e-mail he committed to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo on Sunday night after making a short drive down Highway 1 for an official recruiting trip this weekend.

Budd, who was named an All-Southern Section Northwest Division Co-Offensive Player of the Year with Oaks Christian QB Chris Potter, has been recruited as an athlete for the Division I-AA school. There’s a possibility he could redshirt next fall.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder played an instrumental role in the Pirates’ historical season. In addition to passing for 1,668 yards and 16 TDs, Budd also rushed for 1,360 yards and 22 TDs. He also had nine interceptions at DB and made seven field goals and 44 extra-point attempts. Woo-wee! Now, that’s what I call a great all-around performance.

Morro Bay was one of two regional teams to win every regular season game (Paraclete is the other), before falling to St. Bernard in the second round of the playoffs.
