Gahr outlasts short-handed Corona del Mar, 83-69

Arrived at the Nike Extravaganza just in time to see the Gahr boys’ basketball team finish off Corona del Mar, 83-69, in the second of eight games in Mater Dei’s cavernous arena.

Casper Ware had the big game for the No. 18 Gladiators, scoring 31 points and contributing four assists and six steals. The No. 23 Sea Kings played a man down, as 6-6 senior swingman Joe Eberhard, the team’s leading scorer, was ill.

Corona del Mar trailed by only one point heading into the fourth quarter, so not a bad effort considering the team was short-handed. I think the rankings won’t change much for either team when the new top 25 appears on Varsity Times Tuesday afternoon and in Wednesday’s paper.
