It’s safe to say, the Riverside Press-Enterprise sports dept. probably has a moratorium the rest of the month on girls vs. boys stories.

The latest piece is on Andrea Amaya, a freshman at Riverside La Sierra Academy who starts on the school’s co-ed soccer team. That’s right, co-ed, as in boys and girls, two nets and one soccer ball.

It seems La Sierra Academy and most of the other Arrowhead League members no longer attract the numbers to field girls’ soccer teams, so they combined the boys and girls into one team. No big deal for Amaya, she beat out one of the boys for a starting forward position.

At least Amaya didn’t put the young man in an arm bar.

According to another story that ran in the P.E. over the weekend, Allysa Moreno of Corona Roosevelt has no problem competing against the boys. However, she prefers to beat them on the wrestling mat, rather than simply steal their position on the soccer field.

Good time for a readers’ poll here, guys. What would be worse, losing your starting soccer position to a girl, or losing a wrestling match to one?
