Servite’s Tim Pontius’ Thursday went like this:

Get scholarship offer from the 2006 NCAA national champions, play crucial game vs. Mater Dei, score two goals against rival, then accept college offer. I’m not sure if he signed the paperwork, but wouldn’t you?

Servite Coach Mike Lussier said he received Pontius’ scholarship offer from UC Santa Barbara Thursday before the game against Mater Dei.

Pontius, one of the Southland’s best defenders, celebrated the news by contributing to the Friars’ 3-0 victory. It allowed Servite to overtake Mater Dei in the Trinity League standings. The Friars (21-4-3, 6-3-1) and the Monarchs (15-5-4, 6-3-1) finished the regular season tied for second place, but tiebreakers favored Servite.

Pontius will be playing alongside older Chris Pontius (no, not this Chris Pontius, but this one) for the first time at UCSB. Tim was a freshman when Chris was a senior at Servite, but the two never played together for the Friars.
