Yes! I get to use my favorite word -- chutzpah -- thanks to this quick quote from Larry Shelton, the coach of the Downey boys’ basketball team, which has reached the postseason with a sub-par 12-15 record.

‘People can look at our record and say we have no business playing in the [Southern Section Division I-AA] playoffs,’ Shelton said. ‘But I’m not going to apologize for our record or apologize to anyone that we’re playing in this game.’

That’s the way to respond, Coach -- with a little chutzpah.

Here’s the twist, the Vikings’ wild-card round opponent has a worse record than they do -- Artesia (7-18), which will host Wednesday’s game at 7:30 p.m.
