Who can stop these Tigers?

The question will be asked next week when San Fernando hosts the City wrestling championships.

But wrestlers from the City’s three leagues -- Valley Mission, Crosstown and West Valley -- will try to start finding the answers this week when each league holds its own finals tournament. The top four qualifiers from each league meet will qualify for the City championships on Feb. 23.

San Fernando, the dominant team in the Valley Mission League, figures to have more than its share of wrestlers for the City finals. The Tigers have three defending City champions in George Garcia at 125 pounds, Mike Solis at 140 pounds and Rashaad Reynolds at 152 pounds among their 14 varsity wrestlers. They also have five City runner-ups.

San Fernando has won two consecutive City titles and a record 12 City championships in all.

The Tigers don’t consider 13 an unlucky number.
