Sorry, but I can’t pass up the opportunity to give a little love to the Beverly Hills’ girls basketball team, which advanced past the first round of the playoffs for the first time since 1978 with a 66-61 Division II-AA victory over host Fillmore on Saturday night. I’m no mathmetician, but that’s 30 years, correct?

Now, I know the Normans still have a ways to go before they’re honored with a parade on Rodeo Drive, but I think any program that hadn’t seen the second round since the Carter Administration is worthy of a blog, don’t you?

Let’s hope they savor the moment because next up are the second-seeded Edison Chargers, who have won 16 of their last 17 games. If the Normans can pull off that home-court miracle they’ll be worthy of an even longer blog.

In fact, I proudly volunteer to write it.
