Every team begins the postseason with the same goal: winning the section championship. For Brentwood, however, there are several scores to settle along the way.

The Eagles get their first opportunity Wednesday when they host Notre Dame Academy in the second round of the Southern Section Division V girls’ soccer playoffs. The Regals beat Brentwood on their way to the championship in 2006 and blanked the Eagles, 3-0, in a nonleague game earlier this season.

ddress> Brentwood, which won the Olympic League for the third consecutive year, is led by senior striker Amanda Lisberger, who scored both goals in the Eagles’ 2-0, first-round victory over Paramount. She has 86 career goals, including 27 this year. Notre Dame Academy, Sunshine League co-champion, counters with sophomore Shonice Myers, fresh off a three-goal effort in the Regals’ 10-0 rout of Covina.

If Brentwood wins it will advance to the quarterfinals and a possible matchup against second-seeded Oaks Christian, which eliminated the Eagles on its way to last year’s section title and beat Brentwood, 4-1, in a nonleague game Dec. 7. That chance at redemption, though, is still one settled score away.
