Klay Thompson of Santa Margarita (at right) isn’t the most famous member of his family, considering his father, Mychal, was the first person taken in the 1978 NBA draft.

But he has become the best basketball player in his family in the year 2008, and what a performance he’s having tonight in a Southern Section Division I-AA second-round playoff game against Loyola.

Thompson scored 22 points in the first half to give Santa Margarita a 45-29 lead at halftime. After Loyola had pulled to within 27-26 in the second quarter, Thompson led a 14-0 spurt, contributing eight points. He’s 6-6, headed to Washington State and taking control of the game as a top talent usually does at this time of the playoffs.
