Corona del Mar, West Valley getting started in Division III-A

Arrived at Corona del Mar High about 25 minutes before the Sea Kings tipped off against West Valley in a Southern Section Division III-A boys’ basketball playoff quarterfinal.

Now, you don’t exactly pass through Corona del Mar or Hemet on the way to Las Vegas or Santa Barbara, so that’s probably why these folks just sat in the gym and stared at each other, probably wondering what it would be like to live in the other’s shoes.

Me, I feel more comfortable on the West Valley side because I didn’t have time to look for my fake Rolex. I also never felt more comfortable lurching into the parking lot here at CdM in my ’94 Suburban with 204,000 miles.

There’s probably about 10 of them out there.

Wow, Corona del Mar already lost a starter with a knee injury 29 seconds into the game. Fasten your seat belts.
