Weird things afoot at Santa Margarita vs. Troy. A couple minutes into the game and Troy’s Amanda Sims left after receiving a cut on her chin. Last game, she needed 10 stitches for a gash over her eye. She’s tough.
SM’s Lauren Oosdyke picked up two quick fouls, so two of the best players in Orange County have missed considerable minutes. It was 10-10 after the first quarter. Sims missed 7:55 before re-entering and sparked a 6-0 run -- she had a steal and a block.
Oh, Sims’ replacement, Kristen Chikami, scored eight points.
SM’s Melissa Zornig salvaged the half with a basket from near midcourt at the buzzer.
Troy leads, 20-19.
Roger Anderson, Troy’s coach, just said he wouldn’t be surprised if Sims has a broken jaw.
