Guarded closely for 80 minutes, Amanda Lisberger only had one decent scoring chance the entire game. Fortunately, one is all she needed.

Lisberger (pictured at left) scored on a header in the 81st minute that lifted host Brentwood past Notre Dame Academy, 1-0, in a Division V second-round game. It was her 87th career goal and 28th this season. The Eagles’ senior striker has tallied all three of her team’s goals in the playoffs.

‘This one girl marked me the whole time, it was really annoying,’ Lisberger said. ‘Finally we had a throw-in down in their end, Caitlin [Blosser] got the ball to Margaret [Bylsma] and she crossed it high to me. I honestly thought their goalie would get it.’

‘That’s typical of Amanda,’ said Brentwood Coach David Foote, whose team avenged a 3-0 loss to the Regals earlier in the season. ‘She’s pretty opportunistic.’

Lisberger scored on a similar header to win the state championship for her Eagles’ U17 club team last year. In fact, her penchant for scoring big goals is the reason she has signed to play at Texas. It’s also the reason why Brentwood is moving on to the quarterfinals against second-seeded Oaks Christian.

‘I was talking to Kelly McCarthy (Brentwood’s only other senior) beforehand about this possibly being our last game and neither of us wanted it to end,’ Lisberger said. ‘It’s do or die, so I said ‘Let’s do.’ ‘
