The big day is finally here in the Southern Section Division II-A girls’ basketball playoffs for third-seeded Perris and second-seeded Cajon. The two division powerhouses will meet in a semifinal game at 7:30 p.m. at San Bernardino for the right to play for the section title.

Perris is led by Kiyana Stamps, Aisha Sutherland and Destini Mason, and Cajon answers with Layshia Clarendon, Darshae Burnside and Bjonee Reaves.

This might be the best game in the entire Southern Section playoffs. It should be epic. At least, that’s my prediction.

A few weeks ago, Perris defeated The Bishop’s School from La Jolla, 101-92, in double overtime. That was the second-highest scoring game in state history.

I suspect this game will be high scoring as well. I don’t know if it can be record-breaker, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see both teams pushing 70 points in regulation. Give ‘em a couple of overtimes, and maybe they can wipe from the record book that 179-15 debacle from 1982 in which Riverside Poly’s Cheryl Miller scored a record 105 points against Norte Vista.
