The contenders for next Saturday’s City Championship Division won’t be decided until Wednesday, but one thing is certain: A City team will face a Valley team in the finals for the second time in six years.

City-side teams San Pedro and Locke won their quarterfinal games Friday, but because both are on the bottom half of the draw they’ll play each other in the semifinals. Similarly, West Valley League rivals El Camino Real and Cleveland survived the top half of the draw and will meet in the other semifinal.

Since the sport was sanctioned in 1989, no school outside the San Fernando Valley has captured the section crown. The last City team to reach the finals was Palisades in 2005. El Camino Real has won a record seven consecutive titles and is two victories shy of No. 8.

Will this be the year the City finally ends its drought?
