Boys’ basketball: Sidney off to slow start, Taft takes early lead

There was no secret about what Fairfax wanted to do in Saturday’s City Section championship game: Get the ball to Renardo Sidney and let him go to work. The plan, however, isn’t working, at least not in the early going of the Championship Division final.

The standout junior hasn’t had many touches and both his shots, a pair of attempts from 15-plus feet away from the basket, have come up short. In the meantime, Taft has taken advantage. Larry Drew scored seven points in the first quarter to give the Toreadors a 15-12 lead heading into the second quarter.
