Knight mixed in a couple 6-0 runs in the third quarter of the Southern Section Division II-A final, but senior forward Max Carrier had a couple tip-in baskets and another nice bank shot in the paint to keep the double-digit lead. Ulande Washington then finished off the quarter with a three-pointer at the buzzer, giving the Mustangs a 48-33 lead heading into the fourth at Honda Center.

Rancho Verde earned some style points in the third quarter as well, thanks to a windmill dunk by Kwame Alexander on a breakaway. I still think his tomahawk baseline dunk in the second quarter was better though.

Knight’s school band keeps playing the USC fight song during timeouts, but I think that’s just firing up Rancho Verde junior guard Mike Snaer, who has reportedly been offered a scholarship by the Trojans. Snaer has a team-high 17 points for the Mustangs.
