Riverside King outscored Etiwanda, 20-10, in overtime to steal the Southern Section Division I-A boys’ basketball final at Honda Center, 79-69.

The top-seeded Wolves were the benficiary of two questionable calls in the final minute of regulation. The first was on a charging call on Erick Ellis as he laid in a basket. It appeared Geroge Fields was well under the basket when the players collided.

The other happened when the second-seeded Eagles grabbed a defensive rebound with about 17 seconds left and holding a one-point lead. However, Ellis fell on his backside before he could begin his dribble and was called for traveling. Etiwanda Coach Dave Kleckner was livid.

I think those calls kind of zapped Etiwanda’s emotion during overtime.

Speaking of zapped. My day began with me sitting atop a mower before my son’s Little League game at 9 a.m., and will end after spending 10 hours watching Knight High School, the Bishop Montgomery Knights and Mater Dei Coach Gary McKnight.

All I can say is, now it’s time to say, Good Knight!
