Girls’ basketball: The City queens are back

Well, what do you know? The throne still fits. So does the sceptor, robe and crown.

Narbonne‘s girls’ bsaketball team made it back to the top Saturday night, climbing past Chatsworth in the City Section Championship Division title game, 68-67. Say what you want about the Gauchos -- and they have plenty of friends and foes -- they are proud of the championship heritage.

‘This means a lot,’ said guard Reiko Thomas, who led Narbonne with 26 points. ‘We had a title taken away, so this one is really special.’

The last thing Thomas wants before she heads off to Arizona University is a state title, or at least the chance to play for one.

‘We’ve never gotten past the second round of regionals since I’ve been at Narbonne. So this is really big for us. I think we’ll go in confident, and we can win some games.’
