Westchester in charge at halftime

Westchester has bolted to a 39-23 halftime lead over visiting Rancho Verde in a Southern California Regional Division I first-round game.

And they have done it the way the Comets coaches wanted them to -- playing solid defense.

Westchester has held Rancho Verde to only 19 shots and the Mustangs have made only eight.

Offensively, Westchester took 34 shots and made 14.

If the score is going to swing in Rancho Verde’s favor, Westchester will have to have one of its numbing cold spells, and RV will have to find another scorer besides Mike Snaer, who had 13 points.
