Congrats are in order for both the girls’ basketball team at Muir and the boys’ team at La Verne Lutheran. The top-seeded Mustangs advanced to Thursday’s Southern California Regional Division III semifinals while the Trojans’ season came to an end with a record of 29-1.

La Verne was unable to match up with top-seeded Price‘s Tyrese Breshers, a Washington-bound forward, who tormented the Trojans for 24 points and 22 rebounds in a Division V quarterfinal. But expect to hear from the Southern Section Division V-AA champions again next year. Led by freshman Carl Cooper, who averaged 19 points, sophomore Keith Shamburger, who averaged 13 points and 8 assists, and first-year Coach Eric Coopers, La Verne Lutheran should only get better.

As for the Muir, the Mustangs didn’t look particularly sharp Tuesday, but advanced nonetheless. Led by junior Brittany Henderson and senior Cherrish Wallace, Muir (27-2) will fifth-seeded Spring Valley Mt. Miguel (21-5) at 7 p.m. Thursday.
