They didn’t act like Kings on this court on this night

I like the boys’ basketball coaches at Riverside King, I think the players are very calm, cool and collected, but a few of their fans could use some tips on etiquette. In fact, all they had to do was look across the court at the Westchester faithful Tuesday night for a good example.

Probably because the Comets had been there more than once.

I don’t know how many times a referee blew his whistle against the Wolves in their Southern California Regional Division I quarterfinal and an adult immediately screamed over my shoulder, ‘Cheater!’ The lady who sounded like she gurgles Irish whiskey in the morning was especially irritating.

C’mon, this isn’t the NBA.

Then there were the King fans who ran down the aisle after one particular foul and acted as if they were about to rush the court. They must have short memories because the Wolves benefited from two questionable calls in the final minute of regulation against Etiwanda in the Southern Section Division I-A final Saturday night, allowing them to extend the game into overtime and eventually prevail.

C’mon, the Inland Empire already has a bad enough reputation, and I have to work there.

Fortunately, the fans will get an opportunity to redeem themselves Thursday night against Taft in the regional semifinal at Pepperdine.
