Bishop Amat senior Tommy Reyes is having quite the power surge to start the season. The 6-foot-1, 160-pound shortstop already has two home runs and, though it’s early, is on pace to hit 20 this season. If he can get there, that would be quite a feat, considering the Lancers hit only 17 homers last season as a team.

It’s doubtful Reyes, who only hit four jonrones last season, will reach 20. But it’s not out of the realm of possibilities that Bishop Amat (3-0) can repeat as section champions. A lot of the players that helped beat Monrovia in the Division V championship game last season are back -- and producing.

Senior Jordan Fox, who set a school record with 56 hits last season, has picked up where he left off. Fox, the Lancers first baseman, is batting .700 (7 for 10 with one HR and 3 RBIs). He and outfielder Brian Seymour, second baseman Nick Bergara and Reyes all contributed to Amat’s 11-1 victory over Colony to advance to Saturday’s championship game of the Glendora tournament.

The Lancers will play the winner of today’s semifinal between Northview and Alta Loma at Henderson Field at 7 p.m. Ace Brady Zuniga will be on the mound for Amat.
