Demolition complete.

The Mater Dei boys’ basketball team took a wrecking ball to visiting Mission Hills after the first quarter of their Southern California Regional Division II semifinal, sending the Grizzlies packing with an 83-54 defeat.

Those Wear twins were at it again, trying to copy each other to no end. David scored 20 points and Travis had 19. Both made eight field goals and didn’t change facial expressions the entire game.

Gary Franklin pitched in 11 points for the top-seeded Monarchs, but the loudest ovation went to Gabriel Hernandez, who must not score a lot of points because his putback in the closing seconds brought the entire Mater Dei bench and student section to its feet.

Taylor Darby scored 14 points for Mission Hills and Jensen Moore had 12, but even if they had twin brothers on the team, it probably wouldn’t have been enough to knock off Mater Dei’s twin towers.
