La Jolla Country Day (25-5) vs. Marlborough (23-9), at Mater Dei, 5 p.m., Saturday

This is the only girls’ regional that has the two top-seeded teams facing off. Although top-seeded LJCD has been competitive in its games against Southland opponents, the San Diego Section champion has lost the last two months against some of the better teams, most recently falling 44-43 to San Clemente and before that losing 56-52 to Narbonne. The Torreys, led by 6-3 Janae Fulcher (17.5 points) and Dominique Conners (14.3) carry an 11-game winning streak into their game against Marlborough, which has had mixed results against some of the Southland’s top teams.

It’s hard not to like the Mustangs, who are the defending state champion, since 6-3 Talia Caldwell (15.6 points) and guards Nikki Speed (12.1) and Dominique Chen (9.4) have already been here and done that.
