What do you know? Another private school is heading to the boys’ state basketball championships.

The latest is Mater Dei, which just finished sleepwalking through a 75-59 victory over Fresno Edison in the Southern California Regional Division II final at the Sports Arena.

The Monarchs can hang out with Santa Margarita and Renaissance Academy in Sacramento next weekend, maybe compare tuitions and dress codes. Campbell Hall should be joining them shortly.

Like I wrote earlier, the Monarchs played the first six minutes like they already had reservations, jumping out to a 14-2 lead.

They played the next two quarters like they didn’t want their reserves to see any garbage time, letting the Tigers get as close as four points early in the third. Somebody must’ve reminded them of those reservations because Mater Dei stepped back on the gas down the stretch.

The reserves then played the final 32.6 seconds, a reward for their hard work since last summer.
