Long Beach Wilson did not get an offensive or defensive player of the year award in girls’ Division I. Wilson, the StudentSportsSoccer.com national champions, scored 110 goals and only allowed 13 in 35 games this season. Jason Kirkwood was the coach of the year and six players did make the team. Normally, two goals and three assists wouldn’t be enough. But when you are a North Carolina-bound forward, you are judged differently. Such was the case for Aliso Niguel senior Rachel Wood, who has named to the All-Division I second team. Any other season she is POY candidate, but she only played in 10 games this year. There were three underclassmen named POY winners, two sophomores and one junior. The sophomores were Thousand Oaks midfielder Alyson Birgel and La Mirada defender Natalia Ledezma; the junior was South Torrance defender Hali Oughton.
