Mira Costa girls’ basketball makes top 10, so I don’t say phooey

Don’t know if you’re into preps rankings. Me? They just make me say phooey. Let me paint the picture for you...

You have some frumpy sports dude combing through dozens of web sites, scanning a bazillion stats and scribbling maniacal notes while munching on stale corn chips. After about three hours or so, this sports dude has cobbled together a Top 10 or Super 25 or whatever, and often he gets it wrong, overlooking a team here or there. (Hey, I’ll admit it, it’s a thankless task.)

Well, whoever’s doing the ratings at CalHiSports.com got it right. The preps site bumped Mira Costa girls’ basketball into the No. 10 spot in the state for this week’s rankings. And that’s exactly where the Mustangs belong. They’re a Top-10 squad, competing for the Division II state title on Friday night against San Jose Archbishop Mitty.

And, if the Mustangs win the state crown, I could argue they’re a Top-5 team.
