Mater Dei off to good start in Division I boys’ title game

It was a good sign for Mater Dei when Gary Franklin Jr. connected on a three-pointer from the top of the key to start the state Division II final against Archbishop Mitty. He helped Mater Dei go on a 10-2 run to start the game.

Mater Dei leads, 13-6, with 3:52 left in the opening quarter, but Drew Gordon has come in off the bench for Mitty, and we’ll see what kind of shape he is in. The 6-foot-9 UCLA-bound center is coming back from a broken foot.
