The Mira Costa girls’ basketball team shot 60% from the field in the first half of the Division II state championship game and held San Jose Mitty to only 22.6%. Then why are the Mustangs leading only 26-20?

Here’s one reason: Mitty has taken 31 shots in the first half, the Mustangs have taken only 15. Another factor is the Monarchs have committed seven turnovers, compared to 11 for Mira Costa.

I told you strange things happen in Arco Arena.

Mikah Maly-Karros, the Southern Section career rebounding leader, has 11 points and seven rebounds to lead the Mustangs, but only three of her teammates have also shot the ball.

Should be an exciting second half.
