Girls’ basketball: Marlborough’s Speed named McDonald’s co-MVP

Nikki Speed of Marlborough shared the John Wooden MVP Award for the girls’ McDonald’s All-American Game tonight at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee.

Speed and forward Brooklyn Pope of Ft. Worth (Texas) Dunbar, both of whom are headed to Rutgers in the fall, helped the West to an 80-64 victory.

The East pulled within 11 points down the stretch but got no closer. Speed scored nine points, four assists and two steals. Pope scored 13.
