The best softball rivalry in the Southland, in my opinion, continues today when Norco -- No. 4 in The Times ranking -- plays host to No. 1 Corona Santiago in a Mountain View League game at 3:15 p.m.

The teams played on March 11 and Santiago won, 2-0, on home runs by Jackie Sweet and Kamerin May.

Norco (14-2, 3-1) has won three of the last five, according to Norco Coach Rick Robinson: ‘Basically, everyone has been taking care of their home game.’

In a year in which pitching as a whole seems down, these teams feature junior pitchers who would stand out in any season.

May leads Santiago (12-1, 4-0). May earlier this year committed to San Diego State, along with her twin sister, Kristin, who is also her catcher.

Teagan Gerhart, one of the triplet sisters of former Norco standout running back Toby Gerhart, has been striking out opponents at a rate of 14 per game.

Should be breezy in Norco. Last time they played, May struck out 10, Gerhart 12. They play a third time on April 24. For a closer look at the rivalry, check out the Press-Enterprise softball preview.
