There’s a story on the L.A. Jordan boys’ volleyball team in today’s Los Angeles Wave, about how the Bulldogs, a relatively new team, had amassed a 7-0 record by winning every match in straight games.

But before anyone even had the chance to cry out, ‘Jinx!’ the Bulldogs went out this very afternoon and ... no, they didn’t lose their match against Bell. They actually beat the defending Eastern League champion Eagles -- but did so in four games, losing the third one, 27-25, to end their straight-game streak (not counting tournaments) at 23.

OK, so it’s not quite the magnitude of the SI Jinx. After all, Jordan is still undefeated (8-0 overall, 6-0 in league), which is impressive for a team that didn’t exist until four years ago. And the Bulldogs are still on pace to achieve their main goal of the season.

‘Everyone was just happy we won [the match],’ said Coach Leland Wong, whose team won the final set against Bell, 25-22. ‘Our main goal is still to win the league. They were a little disappointed after the third game, but I told them not to worry about it, it was just one game. And they came back and won the next game.’
