Baseball: Ready for the best of the best from my neck of the woods?

Another week has passed, so that must mean it’s time for another shake-up in my edition of the premier baseball teams from the SV Valley/North region. Keep in mind, this is not an exact science, as it’s difficult figuring out what to expect from these kids day in and day out.

Here’s a good example: Camarillo jumped into my rankings last week and appeared ready to make itself comfortable. That is, of course, until it lost to Hueneme. How that happened, I have no idea. Now, it looks as if Oxnard is poised to replace the Scorpions. However, everyone will have to wait seven days to find out if the Yellowjackets end up doing so.

I could go on and on about numerous other scenarios. We would be here for days, though. Instead, let’s take a gander at the programs deserving to be in my top 10:

1. Crespi (12-3): Winners of seven consecutive are one of hottest teams around.

2. Notre Dame (13-2): Too bad we have to wait a month for showdown with Crespi.

3. Simi Valley (11-5): Tough to find a group with more quality wins than Pioneers.

4. Valencia (11-4): Well, well, well ... look who’s on top of the Foothill League standings.

5. Westlake (11-4): Best in the area a week ago. Could be tough getting back to the top.

6. Hart (12-5): Will be seeking revenge against Valencia in the next two games.

7. Quartz Hill (10-5-2): Talking about a team that defeated Crespi and Simi Valley already.

8. Newbury Park (13-5): Staying afloat in maddening Marmonte League race.

9. St. Bonaventure (13-3): Making a return to the rankings after a week absent.

10. Thousand Oaks (9-8): Loss to Calabasas was puzzling. Time to figure things out.
