If Crenshaw is going to successfully defend its Coliseum League title for the third consecutive year, plenty will depend on the play of Cameron Hart, who leads the team in seemingly every significant statistical category. In a nutshell, the Cougars will go as far as the senior captain takes them.

After Monday’s 7-0 victory over Fremont, Hart is batting .535 with 23 hits, 22 runs and 22 RBIs in 14 games. With those types of numbers, it shouldn’t come as a big surprise to learn that The Shaw is tied for first place in league with the Pathfinders heading into Friday’s rematch.

“We want to three-peat, and if Cameron keeps doing what he’s doing, we have a shot,’’ assistant coach Greg McKinney said. “He’s our leader, a great kid. A coacheable kid. A kid that goes 110% all the time. He does it all for us, no doubt about it.’’
