As if the Marine League wasn’t going to be tough enough this fall in football, Carson has hired former Dorsey defensive coordinator Ralph Caldwell to a similar position.

Caldwell hasn’t coached the last two seasons after having helped Dorsey develop its defense into one of the best in the City Section during 13 years with the Dons. He had a strong reputation for helping produce All-City linebackers.

His arrival all but guarantees that the Marine League will be the toughest in the City Section. And the Colts will need him because they are scheduled to open the season on Sept. 3 in a televised game against Santa Ana Mater Dei and play Long Beach Poly two weeks later.
