My intention was to watch a couple innings of Tuesday’s Mission League baseball game between Crespi and Harvard-Westlake to see if pitcher Tyler Johnson could improve his career record to 15-0. Crespi won, 12-1, and Johnson got his victory.

But I was stunned by how impressive 6-foot-3 Crespi sophomore first baseman Ryon Healy, pictured, looked at the plate. He contributed four consecutive singles, the last hitting the net on the fly in left-center field at Franklin Field.

‘He’s pretty good,’ said Crespi Coach Scott Muckey, which means he’s real good. ‘He makes contact and hits all over the field and goes up with a lot of confidence.’

Healy was an all-tournament selection at the National Classic this season. And the word is he can pitch too. He hasn’t pitched much this season because of arm problems, but he was the No. 1 pitcher on the JV team last season.

In other words, he’s the next Jeff Suppan in the making.
