The coolest mohawk of all-time graced the dome of my boyhood hero... Mr. T.

The coolest mohawk in the Southland belongs to Long Beach Poly’s Joey Hughes, whose track exploits are attracting even more glances than his ultra-cool hair-do.

Last weekend at the Arcadia Invitational, Hughes shined in the 400 meters with a state-leading 46.97 to become only the second local runner to break 47 seconds since 1984. Then, Tuesday, Hughes won the 100 meters in 10.7 seconds and 200 in 23.0 in a dual meet at L.B. Wilson.

Now, here’s a thought, head to the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational on Saturday and see if Hughes can win by more than a hair -- I bet he does.

By the way, Mr. T’s real name is Laurence Tureaud -- in case you were curious.
