What I’m about to say is as clear as today’s Dodger-blue sky...

Lakewood just schooled Long Beach Wilson as if it were the first day of kindergarten -- in baseball and softball.

Big whoopdeedoo, you might be thinking. No, this is a very big whoopdeedoo.

First, softball...

On Tuesday, Lakewood’s No. 9 hitter Adriana Valdez poked a long-ball as Aubray Zell outdueled Wilson’s Callie Nikoletich in a 1-0 pressure-cooker. The No. 19-ranked Lancers upset Wilson’s ace and a team that has been skyrocketing up The Times’ rankings.

Now, baseball...

Yesterday, Lakewood’s Matt Duffy leaped high to snag a line drive, then doubled up the runner on first base to snuff out the last-inning drama and give Lakewood a 6-4 win over the No. 17-ranked Bruins. The unranked Lancers beat the ‘defending national champions,’ which many preps yodas consider to be the class of the Moore League, if not the Southland.

(Sidebar: My favorite word to say is ‘whoopdeedoo.’ I also love saying ‘humdinger’ and ‘crackpot.’)
