The last time Jason Hitchens was a head football coach, his team went 14-0. After successful coaching stints at El Modena and St. Margaret’s, where he won a Southern Section title, Hitchens is reportedly going to be the next football coach at Corona del Mar.

According to the Daily Pilot, the school could make its announcement as early as today/Friday. Hitchens was a defensive coordinator last season at Villa Park. Pat Mahoney, Villa Park’s head coach, told the newspaper that Hitchens would be named after a months-long drama at CdM.

Former coach Dick Freeman said he was fired after 12 seasons, though Athletic Director Paul Orris said Freeman left on his own after a 3-6 season. The first choice to replace Freeman, El Toro assistant Chad Johnson, pulled out because there was no teaching position available.

Hitchens, apparently, was not interested without a teaching position, either, but it is now included.

Villa Park went 1-9 in 2007. Its only victory was against Corona del Mar, 21-6.

Hitchens coached El Modena to three league titles from 1998-2003, and coached St. Margaret’s to a 14-0 season in 2006.
