Matt Hobgood of Norco blasted another home run Thursday in an 18-5 victory over Corona Centennial, moving him into a tie for the state lead with 12.

I blogged earlier this season about Hobgood, a 6-foot-4, 245-pound junior pitcher/first baseman, and his decision to quit football and focus on baseball after his freshman year, despite a physical frame built for the gridiron and his school’s rich football tradition.

Hey, if you can hit a baseball that far without breaking a sweat, why spend a hot summer shooing away horse flies on the football practice field in Norco?

With their latest victory, the Cougars are 16-3 and 7-0 in the Mountain View League, where they have a three-game lead with five to play.
