The boys’ 100 meters didn’t quite live up to expectations talent-wise, as Arcadia Invitational champion Randall Carroll of Los Angeles Cathedral scratched from the event at the Mt. San Antonio College Relays.

That opened the door for his primary rival, Charles Saseun of Rancho Cucamonga, to win in a wind-aided 10.54 seconds.

Saseun, runner-up in the state finals as a sophomore last season, used a late surge to blow past early leader Chris Owusu of Oaks Christian.

Owusu, a senior headed to Stanford on a football scholarship, faded to fourth in 10.73, behind Vontrail Love of Hanford West (10.60) and Rodney Storrs of Corona Santiago (10.68).

Yasmine Woodruff of Inglewood St. Mary’s was the fastest on the track in the girls’ 100, taking first in a wind-aided 11.86, well off her season-best of 11.64, which was also wind-aided.
