Chatsworth had to be brimming with confidence with a showdown against rival Granada Hills looming. And the Chancellors had every reason to be. They were, after all, coming off a victory in the title game of the Sylmar tournament over the weekend, boasting an unblemished record, 11-0, to boot.

Sometimes, however, confidence can turn in to over-confidence. When it does, the results can be disastrous. Just ask the Chancellors. They know.

The Highlanders served up a slice of humble pie Monday. The two-time defending City Section champions proved the title still runs through Granada Hills, defeating Chatsworth, 25-22, 35-33, 25-15, to clinch a share of the West Valley League title.

With the victory, Granada Hills (11-2, 9-1) figures to be the group with a fair amount of self-assurance when the playoffs begin in a couple of weeks. Chatsworth (12-1, 9-1), on the other hand, must regroup quickly and find the lost confidence with only a few more games remaining in the regular season.
