It should be a good one today/Wednesday when the baseball teams from Covina and Northview, two schools approximately 1.2 miles apart, meet on the field with the Valle Vista League title at stake.

According to Northview Coach Darren Murphy’s number-crunching skills, Northview (15-4, 8-1), which has a two-game lead on second-place Covina (15-4, 6-3) in the standings, needs a win against Covina to lock up their fifth league title in nine years. The Vikings will get two cracks at doing so this week as they host the Colts on Wednesday and on Friday at 3:15 p.m.

Two of the best arms in the area will be on display Wednesday. On the mound for Northview will be sophomore Eddie Pedroza while Covina will counter with Cal State Fullerton-bound Tyler Pill. When the teams faced off earlier in the season, Pedroza and Pill were the starting pitchers. The game lasted 11 innings and Northview prevailed, 3-0.

In case you are wondering, Eddie and Tyler are related to former Cal State Fullerton teammates Sergio Pedroza and Brett Pill. Eddie is Sergio’s uncle and Tyler is Brett’s younger brother. Sergio and Brett were teammates for many years at Cal State Fullerton, including 2004 when the Titans won the College World Series.
