The El Toro baseball team can earn at least a share of the Sea View League title with a victory Tuesday afternoon against visiting Foothill. First pitch is scheduled for 3:15 p.m.

The Chargers (19-6, 10-3) will have the right guy on the mound in Chad Thompson, a 6-foot-7 junior right-hander who is 7-3 with a 1.40 ERA. Thompson has thrown shutouts in two of his last three starts, including a four-hitter to beat Huntington Beach last Wednesday, 3-0.

Foothill (16-8, 9-4) could counter with 5-9 junior Casey Rowe, who made his first start of the season last Wednesday against Northwood and gave up two hits and one earned run in five innings of work in a 4-1 victory over Northwood. The team’s ace, Aaron Lambrix (6-3 with a 1.84 ERA), threw six innings Friday in a 10-4 victory over Northwood, so he could also be asked to get some outs.

While an El Toro victory would eliminate the Knights from league title contention, Trabuco Hills (13-12, 9-4) could stay in the hunt with a victory Tuesday at Northwood.

As a former Saddleback Little Leaguer and Charger pitcher who taught El Toro Coach Mike Gonzales everything he knows, I have confidence the blue and gold will be up for the challenge.
