Just got off the phone with Andy Hall, the coach of the Long Beach Wilson Bruins. Surprisingly, he sounded pretty hyped about tonight’s game against Lakewood -- a contest that upon first glimpse looks like it could mean very little, considering the Lancers bagged the Moore League crown a few days back.

No, it means a lot.

Hall said a win should equate to a better seeding when the first round of the Southern Section-Toyota playoffs begin a week from Friday. A win also equals something bigger perhaps -- vindication, maybe even vengeance.

Lakewood beat Wilson earlier this season and also took the league title that prep pundits practically served up to the Bruins on a golden tray before the season even started. ‘Tonight is a rival game for us,’ Hall said. ‘There’s a certain amount of bragging rights to beat a league foe like Lakewood.’

And Lakewood just may be Wilson’s biggest foe right now.

Tonight’s game is at 6:30 at Blair Field.
