I can’t agree more with Steve Fryer, who wrote in his column about the decision by the Trinity League to allow the Santa Margarita boys’ volleyball team the opportunity to go to the playoffs. The Eagles, because of a paperwork mistake by an adult, had to forfeit 28 games.

Things aren’t always black and white, and when so many adults claim they’re ‘in it for the kids,’ it’s nice to see someone stand up and prove it. Believe me, there’s probably not a more competitive group than the Trinity League, although Fryer cited an example that makes a good case for the Garden Grove League.

Another example took place in 2006 when the Long Beach Poly girls’ basketball team forfeited something like 21 games, give or take one. The Jackrabbits were allowed the opportunity to continue on (even though the second and third-place teams voted against it) as the league’s fourth-place team. Poly won the state championship.

Petty is not pretty.
