Frank Llanes has been El Rancho’s coach for two seasons, and the Dons have now won a Del Rio League title each year. ‘Two for two,’ Llanes said. ‘Not bad.’

This year’s title, however, was trickier to nab.

Three days ago, El Rancho trailed first-place La Serna by a game with two games remaining, both against the Lancers. The Dons (20-4, 13-2) won on Wednesday. Then earlier Friday evening, they beat La Serna again -- this time, with a no-hitter.

Chris Vargas threw his first career no-no as the Dons won, 3-1. The lone La Serna run scored on two walks and an error in the first inning.

‘A no-hitter,’ Llanes said. ‘That’s a good way to win a title.’

No, Coach, that’s a great way to win one.
