Raul Arcos, a senior from Corona, won a great Division I race in the boys’ 1,600 meters at the Southern Section-Toyota championships at Mt. SAC. Arcos came from behind and out-leaned Toby Villalva, a junior from El Toro, and beat him by 4/100ths of a second. Arcos clocked 4:14.62 to Villalva’s 4:14.66.

It was an incredibly disappointing race for the section’s leaders. Neither James Cameron of Mission Viejo nor Tiley Sullivan of Trabuco Hills qualified for next week’s Masters meet. Coming into the day, Cameron had run 4:12.37 and Sullivan 4:12.72, the state’s second- and third-fastest times this season. Cameron finished last in the nine-man Division I final at 4:31.46, and Sullivan was seventh at 4:23.15.

They needed to beat 4:21.67 to be among the top 12 to advance.
